Alison brings a wide range of experience to her role as Director of Corporate Communications at Susquehanna. She has worked for agencies, non-profit organizations and corporations, handling everything from writing and media relations to filming commercials on a pot-bellied pig farm and wearing a giant mascot costume. At Susquehanna, she’s found a corporate "home" with coworkers who are helpful, smart and just plain fun to be around. At her real home, Alison is a busy wife and mom. Back in the ‘90s, she won a few look-alike contests because of her resemblance to Elaine from "Seinfeld." She even ended up on the "Regis & Kathie Lee" show. She’s happy to talk about it; just don’t ask her to do the dance.

That’s what the nice voice from the grocery store’s self-check-out register always asks me after I finish scanning my items. I usually answer, “No.” Coupons? I don’t have time to cut out coupons. And then one night I was flipping through the channels and saw the show “Extreme Couponing.” I was hooked.
People were buying over $1,000 worth of groceries for less than the price of a pack of gum - all from clipping coupons! That’s when it hit me, by being too “busy” to give coupons a second look, I was literally leaving money on the table when I left the grocery store. I vowed to become a changed person… a person who clipped coupons. Continue Reading »

I don’t know about you, but I was glued to my television and computer in the days following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The videos of the devastation left me stunned and wanting to help. As the workweek resumed, I discovered that my coworkers felt the same way. We started receiving questions about how our company could help. After other large-scale natural disasters, we had worked together as a company to pool our resources, so many of our employees were ready to do the same this time. Continue Reading »

Wouldn’t it be nice if at the start of a new relationship, you were given some guidelines defining what you could expect from the union? We think so. That’s why about a year ago, we developed Susquehanna Star Service and commitments that define what you, as a customer, can expect in your relationship with Susquehanna. Since then, we’ve received a lot of customer feedback on how we live up to our commitments. And while we’ve found out that some customers consider us the perfect partner, others have pointed out things we could work on to make the relationship better. Continue Reading »

When I was a kid, my mom used to tell me, “finish your dinner; there are starving kids in Africa.” OK, first of all, I had no clue where Africa was. And even if I did, I was pretty sure kids there weren’t going to want my over-cooked vegetables either. But I guess her point eventually did sink in: we’re lucky to have food on our plate, because not everyone does.

Later this month we’ll say goodbye to our summer intern, Stephanie. In addition to being smart, talented, and loads of fun, she is also quite frugal. As a college student, she has to be. Here are some of her tried and true money-saving tips that have helped her over the past four years. Continue Reading »

Okay, okay, if you’re wondering, “Why is a bank blogging?” you’re not alone. I was thinking the same thing about six months ago when we started kicking around the idea. Corporate blogs seemed fine for companies like Starbucks, where discussions surrounding ways to customize your Frappuccino were engaging and just good fun to read. Continue Reading »
