In 2010, we launched our first-ever online food drive, #Tweet2Feed. At the time, we were social media newbies and had no idea what to expect, but the response was overwhelming!
In the first year, with our followers’ help, we donated 200,000 meals to local food banks. We continued the program in 2011 and 2012, expanding it to Facebook, and three years later our total number of donated meals stands at 830,000.
This year, we’re changing things up a bit because we have a milestone goal we want to attain: A million meals donated. Yes, part of it is we can’t resist a challenge. But mostly it’s because of heartbreaking statistics like the fact 49 million Americans are currently living in food insecure households (including 16 million children). That’s why we’re turning our #Tweet2Feed Campaign into a Million Meals Mission.
The Million Meal Mission runs from now until December 31. Here’s how you can help:
1. “Like” our Facebook page and we’ll donate five meals.
2. If you’re already one of our Facebook fans, we’ll donate five meals when you “like, comment on or share” our Stellar Deed of the Day, which will be posted on our Facebook page throughout the month to inspire others to spread goodwill during the holidays. More information about the Million Meals Mission can be found at www.susquehanna.net/millionmealmission.
3. In addition, we’ll donate 25 meals for each new personal checking account opened at the bank from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31. So, if you’ve been thinking about opening a new checking account, now is the time to do it!
So, if you are on Twitter or Facebook, check us out and with a few clicks you can add more meals to the donation total. If you’re not active in social media, you can still help by mentioning the Million Meals Mission to someone who is.
We’re so grateful to be on this Mission with the following food banks: Philabundance, the Central PA Food Bank, the Greater Berks Food Bank, the Maryland Food Bank, the Community Food Bank of New Jersey – Southern Branch, the Food Bank of South Jersey, the Mountaineer Food Bank in West Virginia and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley and Northeastern Pennsylvania, and the H&J Weinberg Northeastern Regional Food Bank.
These organizations, as well as other local food banks need your donations of time, food and money all year long. To help find a food bank near you, visit the Food Bank Locator on the Feeding America website.
Thank you for accepting and contributing to this important Mission! This blog article will self-destruct in five seconds.
