It’s Thanksgiving evening. My friend, Krista, is scouring the newspaper and online ads looking to see what stores have the best deals and what time they’re opening. She goes to bed dreaming of saving money. At 4 AM her alarm goes off and she gets up ready to shop! She maps out where she’s going and what she’s going to buy and heads out the door….making sure to get there early and be one of the first through the door. Where am I? I’m in bed sleeping!
I’ve never been a morning person, so Black Friday has never really been appealing to me. I like shopping in my pajamas from my couch, so Cyber Monday is MY day! This online shopping extravaganza is the Monday after Black Friday. I still get the deep discounts without fighting the crowds.
I start watching for sales on websites, TV ads, and in the newspaper around November 1st. Sales can start anytime after 12:01 AM Monday morning and can last up to eight days. And just like stores, some sites will have special sales at certain times of the day.
A tip I’ve found helpful is to buy electronics now, but clothing later. Most times clothing will continue to be marked down the closer we get to Christmas, so the longer you wait, the better the deal. Electronics, however, tend to sell out quickly.
Now that you know what you want to buy, where do you start? Froogle.com and shopzilla.com compare prices from thousands of stores so you know you’re getting the best price. I like cybermonday.com with its many retailers and the fact that some proceeds of the sales go to the Ray Greenly Scholarship Fund.
Will you try shopping on Cyber Monday this year or stick with the Black Friday deals? Do you have any online holiday shopping tips? How about a great deal you got last Cyber Monday? We always welcome feedback and tips from our readers, so let us hear from you!
Good luck on finding the best sale possible. And why not put the money you just saved in your savings account? You could save enough for a mini vacation or a little “after holiday” shopping spree for yourself!
